Arqueological complex of Racchi-Sicuani


Racchi is an arqueological complex located in district of San Pedro de Cancha, province of Canchis. It is also located near to Sicuani district (20 km northwest). Known as the Temple of Wiracocha, the altitud is 3640 meters and its located on the slopes of Quimsachata volcano. According archaeologists, Racchi is divided in five principal sectors: Temple of Wiracocha, main squares, “Colcas”, “Masapata” and Sector E, in addition to an artificial deposit of wáter in front of Temple and a wall that surround all the place.

The biggest part of Racchi’s constructions belongs to Inca period, nevertheless, researchs indicates that many of the arqueological rests belong to different periods of history. In this sense, Racchi is formed by prehispanic places as Kinsachata, Chaskiwuasi, Carcelraqay, Pukupata, etc.

The temple of Wiracocha is the most important construction of Racchi and consists in an enormous rectangular estructure of two floors, It measures 92 meters long by 25.5 wide and is, at least, 15 meters high. In addition, there are windows and doors. For the construction of walls the stone was used up to 3 meters high and thereafter the adobe.

This arqueological complex has experienced a tourists's increase, ascending to more than 80.000. Tourists are attracted by the place, its history and beauty.
